Hello from Gene-O-Rama!

NOTICE:
Alas, due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be no Gene-O-Rama in 2024. We plan to return in 2025.

Ottawa Branch is very glad you joined us for our 36th Gene-O-Rama on March 23, 2023!  Thank you!

At this time, I want to thank Mike More for hosting Zoom for the whole event, for Charles Godwin backing him up and thanking all the speakers, and to Romaine Honey for helping advertise Gene-O-Rama.  This would not have happened without their on-going support!

Thank you also to our wonderful speakers:
Linda Corupe
Ken McKinlay
Nancy E. Loe
Jean Wilcox Hibben

Thank you to our Exhibitors:

P.S. – Did you know there is a Gene-A-Rama?  I learned earlier this year that the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society has an event by that name . . . and it was this weekend too!  See https://www.wsgs.org/2023-gene-a-rama

Ottawa Branch OGS hosted Gene-O-Rama, our annual mini-seminar, virtually on Saturday, 25 March 2023.

Gene-O-Rama 2023 offered six sessions from four top-rated speakers. Ticket holders can view the recorded sessions until April 30, 2023.

This year, Gene-O-Rama offered something for all genealogists, particularly those searching in Ontario.  Linda Corupe will educate us about the records of Rebellion and Discord.  As genealogists, we know land records are incredibly important and Ken McKinlay gave a presentation on Ontario’s land records.  For genealogists of every proficiency level, Jean Hibben and Nancy E. Loe presented on organization, skills every genealogist needs and how to use the information found in online trees.  Over the lunch hour, there was an “Exhibitors’ Chat” with local providers of genealogy resources.

Ottawa Branch OGS was founded in 1970 and is one of 34 Branches and Special Interest Groups of Ontario Ancestors/Ontario Genealogical Society.  Ottawa Branch is “responsible” for Carleton, Lanark, Renfrew, Prescott and Russell Counties. The Branch unites members who seek to learn more about their ancestors.

Since 1981, Ottawa Branch has hosted an annual mini-seminar.  The original organizers included the late Pat Horan, who organized Gene-O-Rama for nine years while serving on the Ottawa Branch Council.  Since then, many others have followed in his footsteps to bring Gene-O-Rama to Ottawa.
